What is an RV recall?

Find out if your RV is affected

It’s important to stay up to date on RV safety recalls, even when the reported issue appears minor. A small defect can become a serious safety hazard if left unaddressed. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) publishes new recall notices each week with the latest list typically released every Monday.

A recall is issued when either the manufacturer or NHTSA determines that a recreational vehicle or a piece of RV equipment contains a safety-related defect or fails to meet federal motor vehicle safety standards. By law, the manufacturer must correct the problem at no cost to the owner.

Once a recall is announced, the manufacturer notifies its dealer network and provides details about the affected RVs, the nature of the safety defect, and the approved repair procedure. Owners of affected vehicles are then notified and instructed on how to have the repair completed.

It’s important to remember that NHTSA safety recalls address issues that could affect the safe operation of an RV. They are not issued for general quality or warranty concerns, such as an air conditioner that doesn’t cool properly or a slide-out that won’t extend, unless those problems also create a safety risk.

Common types of RV recalls

The three most common sources of RV safety recalls

Most RV safety recalls fall into one of three categories: the RV manufacturer, the motorhome chassis manufacturer, or a third-party component supplier.

RV manufacturer recalls are the most common. Companies such as Forest River, Thor Industries, Winnebago Industries, and REV Group may issue recalls involving the RV’s structure, electrical system, propane system, plumbing, slide-outs, or other factory-installed components.

Motorhome chassis recalls affect the vehicle itself rather than the RV living area. Chassis manufacturers including Ford, Chevrolet, Mercedes-Benz, and Freightliner may issue recalls involving the engine, steering, brakes, suspension, transmission, or other drivetrain and safety systems.

Third-party supplier recalls involve components installed by the RV manufacturer but built by outside suppliers. These recalls may include water heaters, furnaces, refrigerators, air conditioners, cooktops, awnings, windows, entry doors, or other equipment used across multiple RV brands.

Regardless of who issues the recall, it’s important to have the repair completed as soon as possible. Recall repairs are performed at no cost to the owner and addressing a safety defect promptly helps protect you, your passengers, and your RV while traveling.

July 2026 RV Recalls: 10 Safety Recalls Affecting 7 Manufacturers — Is Your RV on the List?

Ten RV safety recalls were issued during July 2026, affecting seven manufacturers and thousands of motorhomes, travel trailers, and fifth wheels. Find out if your RV is included and learn what owners should do next.

Before you hitch up or pull out of the campground, it’s worth taking a few minutes to check whether your RV has been recalled. A manufacturer safety recall may involve defects that increase the risk of fire, loss of vehicle control, equipment failure, or other hazards that could put you and your passengers at risk.

The latest recalls issued by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) affect thousands of motorhomes, travel trailers, and fifth wheels from six RV manufacturers. If your RV is included, the manufacturer is required to repair the safety defect at no cost to you through an authorized dealer.

Below is a roundup of the 10 RV recalls announced during July 2026. Check the list carefully to see if your RV is affected before your next trip. A few minutes today could prevent a breakdown—or something far more serious—tomorrow.

Register your RV with NHTSA

Get notified as soon as a recall is issued

One of the easiest ways to stay informed about RV safety recalls is to register for the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s (NHTSA) Recall Notification Email System. Once enrolled, you’ll receive email alerts when a safety recall is issued for your RV or one of its major components.

Getting notified early means you can schedule repairs before a minor defect becomes a serious safety concern—and recall repairs are provided at no cost to the owner.

May 2026 RV Manufacturer Recalls: 10 Recalls Involving 7 RV Manufactures: Is Your RV on the List?

Thousands of RVs were affected by new NHTSA safety recalls issued in May 2026. From generator fire risks and seat belt defects to LP hose routing problems and pop-top latch failures, these recalls involve some of the biggest names in the RV industry including Grand Design, Winnebago, Forest River, Jayco, Roadtrek, REV, and Newmar. Before your next trip, check whether your RV may be affected.

Your recreational vehicle may be involved in a safety recall and may create a safety risk for you and your passengers. Safety defects must be repaired by a certified dealer at no cost to you. However, if left unrepaired, a potential safety defect in your vehicle could lead to injury or even death.

Thousands of RVs are affected by the latest RV recalls issued by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). Before you head out with your RV, check the latest roundup of NHTSA recalls to determine if your RV is affected.

What is a recall?

It’s always important to keep up with the latest recalls, no matter how small the issue may appear to be. Each week, NHTSA publishes the latest information on recalls from minor to major defects. NHTSA releases its most recent list of recalls each Monday.

When a manufacturer or the NHTSA determines that a recreational vehicle or item of RV equipment creates an unreasonable risk to safety or fails to meet minimum safety standards, the manufacturer is required to fix that vehicle or equipment at no cost to the consumer.

Per strict NHTSA protocols, manufacturers will next notify its dealer partners of the recall notice. Each notice will include details of the affected vehicles as well as the appropriate remedy.

It should be noted that RV recalls are related to vehicle safety and not product quality. NHTSA has no interest in an air conditioner failing to cool or slide out failing to extend or retract—unless they can be directly attributed to product safety.

Common types of RV recalls

There are three main types of RV recalls. Those issued by the RV manufacturer, the motorhome chassis maker, and third-party suppliers.

RV manufacturers, such as Forest River Inc., REV Group, Thor Industries, and Winnebago Indristies are the most common recalls.

RV manufacturer recalls can be for various reasons such as a problem with the structure of the RV, an issue with the electrical system, or a problem with the plumbing.

The motorhome chassis manufacturer such as Ford, Chevrolet, or Mercedes issues the second most common type of recall typically because of a problem with the vehicle components of the motorhome.

The third type of recall is issued by a third-party supplier for various reasons, such as a problem with water heaters, appliances, and other non-OEM components.

Regardless of the type of recall, it’s vital to have it fixed as soon as possible to avoid any further damage to your RV.

Brief summation

May 2026 brought a wave of RV safety recalls affecting thousands of motorhomes and trailers across multiple manufacturers with issues ranging from electrical wiring and lighting defects to ramp doors and water tank heating pads that could fail during use. While all remedies are provided at no cost, these recalls underscore how critical it is for RV owners to stay informed and act quickly because when it comes to safety, delays can have serious consequences. As the saying by Martin Van Buren goes, “It is easier to do a job right than to explain why you didn’t.”

March 2026 RV Manufacturer Recalls: 11 Recalls Involving 8 RV Manufactures: Is Your RV on the List?

11 RV recalls issued in March 2026 affect major brands like Forest River and Winnebago. Check if your RV is on the list and what to do next.

February 2026 brought a wave of RV safety recalls affecting thousands of motorhomes and trailers across multiple manufacturers with issues ranging from electrical wiring and lighting defects to ramp doors and water tank heating pads that could fail during use. While all remedies are provided at no cost, these recalls underscore how critical it is for RV owners to stay informed and act quickly because when it comes to safety, delays can have serious consequences. As the saying by Martin Van Buren goes, “It is easier to do a job right than to explain why you didn’t.”

January 2026 RV Manufacturer Recalls: 8 Recalls Involving 7 RV Manufactures: Is Your RV on the List?

Is your RV on the list? A manufacturer recall can create a safety risk if not repaired.
